Tips and Hints for getting the most from the App
Tip 1 : Enable Location Service
The app works with a device’s Location service to display the discounts closest to your location (this is the same service that the device’s Map app uses).
Please note we’ve had occasional reports that, depending on the device and network provider, it can sometimes take 2-3 hours for the location service to align with the app (although usually it’s instantaneous). So if you have installed the app and enabled the location service very recently and still not seeing discounts nearby please be patient.
If you didn’t enable this service when you installed the App, or if you want to check that it is enabled, you can follow these quick steps;
For Apple Devices (iPhone, iPad)
Tap on the Settings icon
Scroll down until you find ‘Seniors Discounts’ (your installed Apps are displayed in alphabetic order beneath all the pre-installed Apps on your device)
Tap on Seniors Discounts to open
Tap on Location
Tap on Always (we have noticed there can sometimes, depending on phone network carrier, be a delay for the location service to align with the App so having it set to ‘Always’ will ensure the App is always ready to find the discounts close by)
Also enable Bluetooth (certain extra special offers and deals will be displayed via Bluetooth when they are close to you)
For Android Devices (eg. Samsung, Oppo, OnePlus, etc)
Pull down from top of the screen
Click on the Settings icon
Select Apps
Find and tap on Senior Card Discount
Tap on Permissions
Enable Location using the slider to the right (tap on the slider for it to appear in colour, not grey)
Also enable Bluetooth (certain extra special offers and deals will be displayed via Bluetooth when they are close to you). Pull down on from the top of the screen and confirm the Bluetooth icon is appearing in colour (not grey)
Note : The postcode you entered when signing up is not used for sequencing the discounts (otherwise you’d only ever see discounts in that postcode even when travelling around). We use the postcode information to help show businesses that there are people in their area interested in Senior Discounts so we hope to list even more discounts for you in the future (see Tip 5).
Tip 2 : Check the “All” Subcategories Listings
Some of the Subcategories may not have many listings and therefore only display discounts located quite a distance away.
Click on the “All” Subcategory icon that appears first and you will then see all the discounts applicable to that Category and should see listings much closer to your location.
Tip 3 : Use the Search Function
From the main category screen (refer to image), type in any word and press search and the App will display any business names or discounts that contain the search word.
Provided Location Service is enabled (from Tip 1 above), these will appear in order of closest to your current location.
Tip 4 : Don’t be limited to just local discounts
By tapping on a discount listing, you will see more detail about the discount and the business offering the discount.
If it’s a product that can be shipped, even if the business is located some distance away, or even in another State, consider contacting them by Phone, Email or Website and asking if their Seniors Discount can be applied to a delivery order.
The Phone, Email and Website details listed will work with your phone simply by tapping them.
Tip 5 : Tell others about the App
The more the community of Seniors Discounts App users grows, the more businesses will want to offer their discounts and deals to us all.
So even if your area doesn’t have too many discounts today, help us grow the community and show local businesses that Seniors are a great audience right on their doorstep!
